CHIRLACHIRLA was formed in 1986 to advance the human and civil rights of immigrants and refugees in Los Angeles; promote harmonious multi-ethnic and multi-racial human relations; and through coalition-building, advocacy, community education and organizing, empower immigrants and their allies to build a more just society.
Students United (to) Reach Goals (in) Education (S.U.R.G.E) provides Cal State Los Angeles
students and those who are AB540 (non-resident students exempt from out of state tuition)
informational resources to guide them in their educational goals and struggles.
Many students believe that they are unable to purse a higher education after graduating from high school because of their legal and financial status, lack of resources and information. With the appropriate guidance, resources, and support that SURGE provides, they will see that this dream is within their grasp. We also provide awareness among the general student body and community to create a constructive learning environment.
SURGE is open to any student who is interested in being part of an organization that pursues equal access to education and social justice for all.
